Privacy Policy – SmartWind

Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy clearly explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your data when you use the SmartWind app. We follow Google Play, LGPD (Brazil), and GDPR (Europe) guidelines.

1. Data we collect and purpose

SmartWind collects only the data required for proper app operation. Each data type has a clear and legitimate purpose:

1.1 Location (GPS)

Purpose: calculate speed, heading, course over ground (COG), record sailing routes, and generate later analysis.

How it is used: displayed to the user in real time and stored in sailing logs.

Frequency: during active app usage.

Sharing: never shared with third parties.

1.2 Device sensors (compass, magnetometer, accelerometer, gyroscope)

Purpose: determine magnetic heading, heel angle, vessel stability, and infer wind conditions.

How it is used: local processing and storage in sailing segments.

1.3 Vessel information

Purpose: customize navigation, wind, and performance calculations.

How it is used: associated with user sailing sessions.

1.4 Authentication data (email and password)

Purpose: secure app access and data synchronization with the server.

How it is used: session management and user identification.

1.5 Technical sailing session data

Purpose: build sailing history, analytics, and dashboard visualization.

Includes indicators such as:

  • Speed
  • Heel
  • Headings (magnetic and true)
  • Wind inferences
  • Tracks and time-based samples

2. Data storage and security

  • Data is stored in third-party cloud infrastructure with international security certifications.
  • Authentication is protected by the provider's secure mechanisms.
  • Communications between app and server use standard HTTPS/TLS encryption.
  • Data is not end-to-end encrypted. Authorized technical staff may access data for support, testing, and maintenance.
  • We do not store passwords in plain text.
  • We do not share, sell, or rent data to third parties.

3. Data retention and deletion

In line with Google Play requirements, we inform you that:

  • Sailing session data is stored until the user requests deletion.
  • Account data (email, name) is retained while the account is active.
  • Users may request full account and data deletion by sending an email to [email protected].
  • After request, removal is completed permanently.

4. Permissions requested by the app

Under Google Play rules, we clearly explain each permission:

4.1 Location – "Access to precise location"

Used exclusively to calculate speed, route, heading, and sailing analytics.

4.2 Sensors

Magnetometer, accelerometer, and gyroscope are used for magnetic heading, orientation, and heel angle.

4.3 Local storage

Used to save offline segments before upload.

4.4 Internet

Required to sync data with the server and access the dashboard. SmartWind does not collect data in the background without necessity and does not request extra permissions.

5. Data sharing

SmartWind does not share personal or location data with third parties. The only external use is storage with a cloud provider (for example, Firestore/Google Cloud), without third-party access outside the authorized technical team.

6. Legal basis

Data processing is based on:

  • User consent when using the app.
  • Service execution (essential operation of the app).
  • Legitimate interest (internal analytics for improvement and support).
